On the coast of the Finistère department, a sailor bids farewell to his family. Soon he must go back to sea and this time he will not return... Years later, the boy who has become a sailor himself must also sail away. In the depths of the sea, a ghost from the past catches up with him...
Stéphane Berla
From a very young age, Stéphane Berla developed a sense of adventure and graphic experimentation by mixing animation with live action, which allowed him to make his first films independently.
After studying cinema at ESRA, Stéphane began his career as a graphic designer and then as an art director while continuing to make his short films and later his first commercials and music videos. This has led him to work with artists with strong universes such as Dionysos, Matthieu Chedid, Matmatah or Gaëtan Roussel.
His films have been selected and awarded in many international festivals (including nominations at the César, Berlinale, Beijing International Film Festival, the Golden Clip award at the Protoclip Festival, Grand Prix of the International Festival of Clips, Anima, Bimini, Imagina, Ottawa,...). Stéphane Berla co-directed in 2014 «Jack et la Mécanique du Coeur», his first animated feature film with Mathias Malzieu. Keen on visual experimentation of all kinds, Stéphane likes to combine different animation techniques (2D, 3D, stop motion in clay or puppets). He is currently developing a sci-fi puppet animation series for Ubisoft as well as a new animated feature film «Dans la Lune», in collaboration with his long-time colleague, Mathias Malzieu.
